On 28 & 29/08/2013, VNU-HCM in cooperation with VNU-ETC successfully organized the training workshop on Writing and Speaking scoring skills for the VNU-EPT for approximately 100 teachers of member universities of VNU-HCM. The training aimed to help teachers understand more about the speaking and writing sections of the VNU-EPT, as well as the assessment criteria in line with the most updated international standards. Besides, the training provided the teachers with the information on the procedures and other important skills such as:
- Seat arrangements for the examiners and the candidate in the Speaking test room
- Examiners’ roles
- Examiners’ behaviors
- Rubric-based scoring
At the end of the training, all the teachers had more practical experience of Writing and Speaking assessment. Qualified teachers were granted a certificate of acknowledgement and invited to cooperate with the VNU-ETC.
The training also contributes to the preparation of the evaluation of the intensive English programs at the member universities of VNU-HCM.
Evaluating the intensive English programs within VNU-HCM
Within the scope of the Foreign Languages Initiative 2020 which aims at “renovating the examination and assessment methods in teaching foreign languages; improving the efficiency of examination and assessment of foreign language proficiency”, and VNU-HCM’s English Teaching and Learning 2010 Project, VNU-HCM has conducted the assessment of English proficiency through 4 skills in accordance with the CEFR for more than 1000 students of the intensive English program of VNU-HCM.
VNU-ETC was assigned to be in charge of the planning and organizing the assessment. It worked with VNU-HCM’s member universities to organize the examination in the best condition possible. The examination plan at the universities were scheduled as follows:
08:00 – 12:00 & 13:30 – 17:30
